Kangaroo Bus Lines (KBL) is proud to announce it has entered into an agreement to acquire the business known as “Brisbane Bus Lines (BBL)” from the Mitchell family. This marks a significant milestone for two of Queensland’s most recognised and respected multi-generational, family-owned transport businesses. The sale is still subject to Translink consent.
Darren Webster, Chief Executive Officer of Kangaroo Bus Lines, said the Webster family is honoured to bring Brisbane Bus Lines into the KBL group. “This acquisition represents the coming together of two proud Queensland families who have dedicated decades to serving their communities and leading the bus industry,” Mr Webster said. “As a fourth-generation business, we’re excited to build on the history and reputation that the Mitchell family created with Brisbane Bus Lines.”
A Combined Legacy Dating Back More Than 75 Years
Brisbane Bus Lines was established by Bill Mitchell in 1965, although the Mitchell family started in Passenger Transport in 1944 over 80 years ago. First in Toowoomba then Tamborine and finally in the north western Brisbane suburbs, Samford Valley and Dayboro Districts.
BBL has grown into an iconic brand across South East Queensland, operating from depots in Dayboro and Enoggera and providing charter services, school transportation, rail replacement and Department of Transport and Main Roads contracts.
Kangaroo Bus Lines, established by the Webster family in 1978, operates from three depots located in Burpengary, Kunda Park and Banyo. Over almost five decades, the company has built a reputation for excellence in charter services, school transportation, rail replacement and urban contracts.
KBL is widely regarded as an industry leader in innovation, sustainability, and customer service.
Strengthening the Footprint Across South East Queensland.
The acquisition significantly expands KBL’s operational reach across South East Queensland, bringing together two heritage operators known for reliability, safety, and community commitment. This strategic merge enhances KBL’s presence across key growth corridors and positions the business strongly for future transport needs.
“The Webster family is committed to ensuring that the legacy of Brisbane Bus Lines is preserved and strengthened,” Mr Webster said. “We are proud to continue the work of both founding families as we expand our capabilities and footprint across the region.”
A Future Built on Innovation and Community
With a strong focus on modern fleet management, sustainability initiatives, and ongoing investment in transport technology, KBL is committed to shaping the future of public and charter transport across Queensland.
“Our vision is grounded in innovation, responsibility, and service,” Mr Webster said. “Bringing Brisbane Bus Lines into our family business strengthens that vision and reinforces our commitment to the communities we proudly serve.”
