Discover Stradbroke Island
Come with us today as we venture across the bay to the world’s second largest sand island, Stradbroke Island. With a long history dating back at least 21,000 years, Straddie has been host to many aboriginal tribes and more recently, many European settlements.
The Portuguese, Dutch and French were visitors long before the English claimed it as their own and established a convict-manned depot at Dunwich. Did you know that North and South Stradbroke Islands were initially joined together and they separated in1895 after a violent storm tocreate the passage known as Jumpinpin.
